Consideration of regional needs
The Mansfeld-Südharz region plays a decisive role in the distribution of electricity in Germany. The region needs a robust infrastructure to ensure system stability and security of supply. Klostermansfeld with its substation is one of the central locations of the German energy grid. The substation functions as one of few central nodes in the grid. The facility has recently been expanded to draw more electricity from the distribution grid and transport it via high voltage power lines. The location of an energy storage system in this region strengthens the power grid's ability to effectively cope with peak load periods. At the same time, this strengthens the region structurally.
